The History of Log Homes

Log homes have a long history, having originally developed with Northern Europe as their focal point. The place of origin is not clear, but they developed mainly in regions that shared the common feature of abundant forest resources.

In the Nordic countries, there is a history of wooden architecture spanning over 1,000 years, and the log homes that developed during this time have now evolved into what are called machine-cut logs.

Machine-cut logs come in two types: rectangular logs with a rectangular cross-section, and D-shaped logs with a D-shaped cross-section.

About Saela Homes

Established in 1996, Saela Homes Company Limited started to operate a log processing factory as a joint venture company in China, manufacturing machine-cut logs to the strict precision standards of Japan to sell in Japan.

We are honored to be able to provide a healthy and comfortable living space filled with phytoncides for the Australian market. Our log homes can be assembled DIY, since they are designed for you to build by yourself while referring to the construction manual.

We deliver peace of mind as well along with log homes.

Saela Homes Co., Ltd. manufactures safe and reliable home kits. We are one of the few kit manufacturers with specialized production machines for manufacturing such log homes.

Our log homes are made from materials that meet Japan's strict technical standards, ensuring excellent precision, strength and durability.

Each log home is fire-resistant and has received certification from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, so you can enjoy the comfort and beauty of natural wood while experiencing a relaxing retreat surrounded by solid timber.

More Discretion and Higher Value

We aim to manufacture log homes that are more flexible and affordable. Our log home plans can be customized in layout to match your lifestyle, construction site environment, and personal preferences. After receiving the order, we saw the logs, dry them with kiln drying, and then start processing the logs.

Let's create a one-of-a-kind log home just the way you want.

How to Maintain Log Homes

Regardless of the construction method used for the log home, maintenance suited to that method is necessary. Log homes made of natural wood generally experience “settling” (wall sagging), which is the sinking of walls due to seasonal shrinkage during the first two to three years after construction.

During this period, it is necessary to retighten bolts and to make adjustments around pillars, stairs and fittings.

To protect the logs from cracking caused by drying shrinkage, we recommend regular painting of the exterior walls. With proper maintenance and care, log homes have a very long lifespan.

Major Maintenance Items

The maintenance unique to log homes is as follows:

Retightening of the Bolts of the Log Walls

Retighten the nuts placed under the through bolt to accommodate the shrinkage of the log wall. As a standard, conduct retightening at six months, one year, two years and three years after the completion of the log home.

Maintaining the Gaps around Fittings

The doors and windows are designed so that they do not directly interfere with the logs.

Daily Care

Even after the initial settling period, be sure to regularly inspect the effects of ultraviolet rays, dirt, rainwater and insect damage, and take necessary measures if any abnormalities are noticed.
